Nigeria Police Academy courses (special training)

Apart from regular studies, you will obviously have to go through special training in order to graduate from the Police Academy. There are three six-month courses that you will need to pass during your education.

Here is what you should be aware of:

During the basic stage (the first six months), you will get acquainted with how the Police Academy works and begin your training. First thing you will have to do is pass the screening, attestation and provide the necessary documentation. You will also be required to take an oath.

After that, you will begin the drill courses and start your police duties. In addition, you will learn about the criminal procedure and laws, attend lectures on first aid (first 4 weeks) and get a one-month attachment to one of the police districts.

Police Academy cadet

During the intermediate stage, you will continue the drill courses and police duties, get another four weeks of first aid lectures and learn even more about laws and criminal procedure. In addition to that, you will also have four weeks of detective courses and four weeks of citizenship and leadership training.

Advanced stage will include the usual police duties and drill courses, as well as learning the laws and criminal procedure. This stage will also consist of four weeks of police mobile force training, one week of police educational visits, four weeks of interviews and four weeks of passing out parade (POP) practice.

Once the training is over, the cadets are posted to state commands for an additional year of attachment, where they can gain some practical experience before going out into the wild on their own.

Police Academy

Nigeria Police Academy was founded in 1988 on two temporary campuses. The campus in Chalawa, Kano housed the training school for Inspectors, while the campus in Kaduna housed the college for training cadet assistant superintendents of police. In 1996, the Academy moved to its permanent spot in Wudil, Kano.
